I'm building a wireless access point using Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS and an Atheros AR9287 wireless network interface card. I want to detect when mobile devices scan for wireless access points and I want to maximize the frequency with which they do so. I do not want to allow them to communicate any data.

How do I log each scan that is received by my wireless access point ? I need the MAC address of the mobile device and any other information available, such as vendor name of the mobile device, and the signal level, when a mobile device scans for wireless access points.

How do I maximize the frequency with which my access point receives scans from mobile devices for my access point ? Is this related to the beacon frequency of my wireless access point ? If so, how do I change it ?

Do I need to allow mobile devices to try to connect to my wireless access point to get their MAC address and vendor information ?

Thank you in advance.
