I have just installed a new NT server using the same users as the previous machine. The new one runs SQL, Exchange and Proxy which the old one didn't. When I try to use Microsoft Networking to log on I am getting an intermittent problem where the egg timer appears and when you press ctl-alt-delete it says that MPREXE.EXE is not responding. Does anyone know what this is all about, is happens on both Win 95 and 98 workstations.

Thanks Paul

Unfortunately I had already found that article. We applied the fix but it didn't (fix it that is), any other thoughts?

Cheers

OK, this can also happen with a corrupted .pwl file, but it is unlikely that all your workstations have this problem at the same time.

You can also get this error if User Profiles are being used, you will need Share-Level Access Control.

There are a whole bunch more, see
hopefully you haven't found this one;-)

If none of this works, let me know.

Thanks again Paul

We have looked at the pwl problem but this didn't fix it either. We think that TCPIP on the server may be the problem because when you install Netbeui on the workstations it seems to cure it. Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

I think it may be worth having a look at this

It is really about Thin Clients, but mentions problems with the Registry fixes previously referenced. You may be able to pick something out of it.

I had a similar problem...turned out to be a worm virus...... :( ...Win32.MTX. Corrupted the profile along with several other files used when logging on...do a search for "FixMTX"..download the small file and run it...better to be safe than sorry..

I am haveing a similar problem - Where did you find fixmtx for NT? I have only found a fix for 95.
