I have a problem with backing up a database file when users forget to log off each night. If the user doesn't exit out of the application using the file it doesn't get backed up.

Is there a way to force users off by time? Or is there a way to force that application to save and close?

this is on an all W2k network and the app in question is quickbooks

If you look at the user properties in active directory you can specify the logon time for the user and I think it gives you also the option to force user logoff.

I only see the ability to change the logon time period. I don't see anything about forcing a user offline. Does that affect just the time some can actually log on? Or does that mean that is the time frame in which that person can be logged in?

Thanks

Editing the settings for user logon times does not seem to log anyone off if they are on after the logon time. ie logon time is set from 7am to 4pm, the user stay on after 4pm, but cannot log back in if they log off. I need to be able to force the user off after a certain time. Does anyone know how to do this?

You may also create a setting in Group policy that kills logged on users if they are still connected afer hours

In the Domain Security Policy, under 'security options' there is a setting to log people off after their logon time expires... This will not send the account to the log in screen but it will disconnect the user from certain resources.

I would advise you test it out on a dummy account to find out the results before you implemented it domain-wide.
