Good morning all,

I have question: I have created a new phone in Openscape Assistant (40T or IP ).
I created the phone with the option OFF for In Service in order NOT to get an automatic PEN.
When I do this , the phone will NOT let me manually enter the Registration code to turn it ON.

Is there a way , through Openscape Assistant, that I can turn OFF the Service and register it back ON without the system giving me an automatic PEN?

Or if I create the phone in the Registration OFF mode, is there a way to turn on the Registration either Manually or directly from the Openscape Assistant. Right now when I try to create a phone with registration off, it will not allow me to turn on the registration manually on the phone .

Please bear with me, this is a learning process for me.
Still trying to get my Management to put up the cost for training.

Thank you for your time and have a blessed afternoon,

Eric

Hi Eric,
Please tell why you want to add a phone but not add a phone at the same time.
If you want to add a phone surely you want to make it live ?

You can just add the phone - make sure it's working then deactivate it if you prefer.

SBCSU - Thank you for responding.

I am just following the orders of my management.
For some reason, they want for us to create a phone but do not want the PEN to be automatically assigned.
I dont know yet what the reason for this is . I just wanted to find out if this could be done.

Thanks,

eric

SBCSU : What was just explained to me , the reason for not getting an automatic Pen is so that we can move phones around and assign our own PEN.

We noticed that , in Openscape Assistant, when we created a phone with the YES for SERVICE it would give us a PEN.
But when we go back into Openscape Assistant and change the SERVICE option to OFF (so that we can give it our own PEN) then the phone goes into a "blank Space" and will not allow for us to Turn ON the Service from the FRAME or anywhere else.

Is there a parameter that we have to change as well in Openscape Assistant aside from turning OFF the Service?
Is there a way for us to create a phone, not have the system give it an Automatic PEN , so that we ourselves can give it the PEN that we want?

Is this a better description?

Eric

I will check out the setup on the Assistant however here is the ComWin/Expert Access method.

You add in the extension as 'SIGNED OFF'
Then you sign off ports (PENS) in BCSU

When you are ready you plug a phone into a signed off pen and sign on the phone.
The phone screen shows signed off - you put the sign on code and the extension number into the phone and it becomes that extension.
And if you want to move it somewhere else or swap it with another phone - then just sign off both phones and sign them on again with the other numbers then both phones are swapped.

More details to follow

The problem that we are having is that after we did the above steps, we were NOT able to log ON.
Maybe it is a parameter that we missed in setting up the phone.

Thanks,

Eric

Did you set the PIN for Manual Pin, select Indiv. PIN, and assign a PIN number (usually the extension number)? I was having almost the same issue you are having (I don't remember ever changing the In Service setting), when building new extensions, but I found that if the PIN is not built before "Saving" the new extension (phone), the system grabs a PEN for it whether you want it to or not.

Hopefully this helps you out.

I don't know if this works with VoiP as I only have TDM phones.

When you create a phone, if you put the PEN you WANT in the PEN box it *will not* automatically assign one. You don't need to do anything else. If you leave the box blank it will automatically fill it in with the first available one from the top down. The reason they don't want you to do that is because there may not be a board in that slot, or there could be a board in there but they want to keep it clean for a designated spare until they have no other option to use it.

You can use DIS-SDSU:ALL,,PEN,PER2 If you DO NOT put in a semicolon at the end of that it will ask you what board you want. If you DO put a semicolon at the end of that it will show you every board in the system.

Any port on an SLMO board that has a status of NOGEN (nothing generated on it) is free for use. You will simply tell whomever is connecting the phone what port you used and you are good. There are other reasons for choosing your own PEN, such as load balancing and making it so not all the phones in one area are on the same board or shelf to allow a bit of redundancy.

As other posters have suggested you can use the feature 'autoset relocate'
You need to setup the 'signed off' extensions where INS=signedoff
PERSI SI has to be added normally a 2 digit code for example 99
then you have to add in WABE the SIGNON example **99 and SIGNOFF **98
Then when you want to signoff an extension you put **98 99 xxxx from any phone - that xxxx phone is then signed off.
If you want to sign on an extension - you go to that phone - it should have 'autoset relocate' on the screen
At that phone you press **99 99 xxxx and then it becomes the extension xxxx
You also need to have some digital ports signed off
CHA-BCSU:SIGNOFF

Happy Friday To All
