I'm running Winndows XP Pro with service pack 3. When I start my computer and the login screen comes up my NEC LCD monitor has nice contrast. Once I login as the user something in my settings is changing the contrast of the monitor and it now looks washed out. When I switch users to my son the contrast is great again. Where are my login settings? I've tried monitor appearance and I don't see anything there. Any ideas?

it´s no setting on the monitor!
is the resolution set propper 2 fit the native resolution of the screen?
what graficcard do u use?

Try these settings.
1. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
2. Click the Advanced button.
3. Click the Adapter tab, and then click the List all modes button.
4. Select the resolution, color depth, and refresh rate that you want and click OK.
Look at the other options available on the other Tabs too.

Consider re-installing or updating your Video Drivers.

Better Color Management For Windows XP

Have you installed something like the following on the machine, or other software that does the same?
This allows per user settings for display settings. A Reg fix by Doug Knox, MVP called 'Keep User display settings'

found on his site under XP Utilities:
This article describes the default application of Display Settings.

Display Resolution and Color Depth Settings Apply to All Users

A different log in could be running a Gamma correction program. e.g. Adobie gamma if they have installed an Adobie graphics editor (e.g Photoshop)?

Some modern Video drivers also include Gamma correction , I don't know if this would be User dependent though

Thanks to all who responded. It turns out it was the nvidia graphics card and I just reset to default and the monitor looks great now. There was an icon in the lower right task bar that I never looked at til now.
