Hi,

I'm in the process of testing out log shipping on SQL Server 200 Standard Edition and as such I am having to do so manually, no cool easy to use wizards for me!:(

Am I correct in thinking that once a full backup has been taken of the database and restored on the standby server, there is no need to apply a full backup to the standby server the next time a full backup is taken on the production server? In otherwords, I only have to keep applying the log files after the full db restore has taken place.

Is that clear, hmm I've almost lost myself. Please let me know if anything needs clarified.

Thanks

Paul

That is correct.

A full backup is needed to ap[ply logs but after that the log backups and full/diff backups are independent.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

Remeber that when restoring the full backup to the target/warm server, you set the "Recovery Completion State" to either "Leave database nonoperational but able to restore additional transaction logs" or "Leave database read-only and able to restore additional transaction logs". This way you are able to apply the TLogs that are needing to be applied to the DB.

I usually opt for "Leave database read-only and able to restore additional transaction logs".

Cheers guys, just needed to confirm that. Jay I have gone for the same option as yourself!

Thanks
