Hi,

I thought i had set up log shipping correctly between two server, using the standby server as the monitor. My standy database is Read-Only. The transaction logs are created and i can see them in the share on the primary server. The copy job on the secondary server records in it's job history that it has run successfully but the duration of this job is always either 0 or 1 seconds. When i check the monitor, it shows that no files have been copied or restored, i.e. it shows the default filenames in the last copied file and last restored file fields. Every time is configure log shipping, the thresholds are met and the monitor records that the secondary server is out-of-sync.

I think that the copy job may be the job that is causing the entire process to breakdown but i don't know how to resolve this.

Any help?

Thanks

Ignore the monitors. They can be wrong. Is the file really being copied? if so it should be on the standby server. Mine gets out of sync and ignore it. Its still working correctly though.

I cannot see the files on the share drive of the secondary server. When i check the windows event viewer, the copy job is there as successful but with 0 files copied.

I even tried to make some changes to the primary database to see if they were transferred to the secondary but they weren'.

I think it could have something to do with Windows system accounts. SQL Server and the agent were both running using the local Administrator accounts. I have changed them so the services run using a domain account. I'm going to try setting up the log shipping again and i'll get back to you.

Changing the user which runs SQL Server service and the agent service did the trick for copying the files. However, a new problem has surfaced, whcih i am pretty sure is a problem with SQL Server.

The restore jobs are failing. When i check the job history I can see the following description:

Executed as user: UUSD\#sqladmin. sqlmaint.exe failed. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 22029). The step failed.

When i check the SQL Server logs, the following error is entered there:

BackupDiskFile::OpenMedia: Backup device 'F:\sql\tlog\TRK\TRAKKA_tlog_200308220915.TRN' failed to open. Operating system error = 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.).

Any help?
