Somehow my log on process had been messed up.
When I boot up the account showing is ADMINISTRATOR and I am told my password is incorrect. In the bottom left corner there are 3 options
Administrator
Administrator
My account
I enter my password and I open up Windows. If I then switch user I am offered 2 users, Administrator and my account. I select my account and am then asked for a pin (I assume that this is my Microsoft pin) which I enter and all is now well.
I want to boot in without passwords or pins. I have run netplwiz and have unchecked "users must enter password...". I have also changed the details for automatic sign in to include my password.
So the issues are
1. My account already has admin capacity
2. How do I get rid of the administrator user accounts? I don't know why they are there.
3. How do I get past having to put in my pin everytime

To disable the administrator account
Code:
net user administrator /active:no
You can't get rid of it: sometimes you cannot do tasks with just admin rights/capacity: you need to be the user called administrator running with elevated privileges.

Some progress thanks. At login I now only have a choice of administrator or my account. In other words one of the administrator options has gone.
However, the logon progress defaults to administrator requiring a password. In the bottom left I can choose my account or administrator. If I select my account I am still asked for my pin.
Any more suggestions?

Does running the net user administrator /active:no a second time have any effect?

If this is a recent occurrence then try fixing things via System Restore.

How to repair the operating system and how to restore the operating system configuration to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista (or 7, or 8, or 10).

See, Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Recovery\ Open System Restore

See what this offers you but make a restore point before attempting anything like what it suggests.

I have solved my problem. I reset all my access passwords and then ran netplwiz three times each time checking and unchecking "user must enter ...".
