We have been running a peer-to-peer Win 95 LAN over TCP/IP (the only protocol currently installed). Now with one 2000 Pro machine on the LAN the following occurs:

Only 2 of the Win 95 machines can browse Network Neighborhood; one of these has also been set up as a user on the 2000 Pro machine and can access a shared 2000 folder. *On neither of these machines do I explicitly log on as a Windows user*.

The other Win 95 machines can't see Network Neighborhood at all, but they are still mapping shared Win 95 drives OK and are fully on the network in other respects.

I need just 2 other machines to share a 2000 folder (3 in total) but can't get any of them to see Network Neighborhood unless the 2000 machine is switched off.

Should I install NetBEUI alongside TCP/IP (which we need on the LAN)? Or SP1?

Thanks for any suggestions.
Tony.

You say peer to peer? No wins? get WINS running on the win2K box or somewhere on the wire. I run the same type of network but I run WINS/DNS and I have no troubles browsing even across the routers.

Let us know what happens

Thank you very much for this helpful response. In the interim, I have got the thing sort-of working by installing NetBEUI on the 2000 and 95 machines. Now Network Neighbourhood is OK and the 2000 folder shares work OK. Is this a bad idea? I would like to try yours.
Tony.

WINS would be a better solution than putting another protocol on your network.
