Log Off button missing win xp pro 1

I am using Win xp pro with 5 user accounts. We can all log in without any problems. When it comes to switching users or trying to log off to switch, the log off button does not appear. Only the Turn Off Computer button appears. Any ideas on how to get the button back would be appreciated.

You can use the Group Policy editor (Gpedit.msc) under the following location to configure Start menu features:
User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Start Menu and Taskbar

Policy:Force Logoff to the Start Menu
Description:Forces the Logoff button to the Start menu and prevents users from removing the Logoff option from the Start menu.
Registry Value:"ForceStartMenuLogoff"
Enable

Policyisable Logoff on the Start Menu
Description:Removes the "Logoff" button from the Start menu and prevents users from adding the Logoff button to the Start menu.
Registry Value:"StartMenuLogoff"
Disable

Policyisable and remove the Turn Off Computer button
Description:Removes the "Turn Off Computer" button from the Start Menu and prevents shutting down Windows using the standard shutdown user interface.
Registry Value:"NoClose"
Disable

Thank you for this information. I have tried changing these items using Gpedit.msc and it did not correct the problem. One of the items did not appear when I was looking at the group policies. The Policy:Force Logoff to the Start Menu was not there. The policy Add Logoff to the Start Menu is there and I enabled this. I disabled the other 2 policies. Not sure what to try next. Any more ideas?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

The registry entries are DWORD values. A value of 1 is enabled, and a value of 0 is disabled. If the key exists set its value as appropriate, or add the key and value if it is missing.

Registry Value:"ForceStartMenuLogoff"
Value: 1

Registry Value:"StartMenuLogoff"
Value: 0

Registry Value:"NoClose"
Value: 0

Thank you for your reply. The first Registry Value was correct. The second two were missing. I have entered both of these DWORD keys and values but still no luck. Where do I take it from here? Thanks again. Keith Johnson

The problem has been fixed. The second time a re started my machine the log off button has returned!! Thanks again for your help and support. Its much appreciated.
