How many .log files should be on XP Pro? I have seen in my search that XP is using log files for running apps. Is this true? If so, MS has really screwed up its program.

Anyway, I have 651 *.log files on my PC. Can I delete them all? I know in the past the .log files were just used to capture errors and such and it was okay back then to delete them. Can I do so now?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried cleaning out your Temp folder, you can do it by typing %temp% in the Start Menu RUN box. This will open your Temp folder, there you can delete everything that Windows will allow you to do so.

It may be necessary to show Both Hidden and System Files, and also to uncheck "Hide known file types" in Control Panel/ Folder Options/ View, to navigate to the mentioned Temp location.

Another folder that you can do a similar job on is the C:/Windows/ Temp folder.

The C:\WINDOWS KBxxxxxx logs can also safely be deleted.

As to individual program logs in Programs Files they are probably too insignificant in size to worry about.

Thanks Linney for the info. I often clean out the C:/windows/temp folder and I run cleandisk often.

I will check out the kbxxxxx files now.

Thanks again for your help. No more help is needed. I will suppose the other log files are here to stay.
