We recently had an issue with a Domino server running a blog where the log file somehow got to 63GB (yes, GB!)

Anyway this made the server fail to start due to a consistency check taking forever (naturally)

I'm not the "domino guy" where I work, but I said i'd try and help out.

Any info on how to set the size limit would be appreciated. On other Domino servers, it usually creates new logs when a certain size is reached.

In the Domino notes.ini, there's an entry of Log= where the values are:
logfile name, logging_option, [not used], number of days to save log info, size of the log entry

Default is to keep seven days of log entries. Ours usually runs about 500MB for 7 days worth - you either have a ton of traffic or a lot of errors to get a logfile that big.

Thanks for that. I have checked, and I can see the following:

Log=log.nsf, 1, 0, 7, 40000

Therefore, I am quite stumped as to how the log could possibly have got to 63GB (I'm told it was part of one log file)

I have also been told that this has happened on another domino server (primary mail server)

There certainly isn't a ton of traffic to the blog!

Since your INI entry seems normal, the next things to look at would be whether message tracking or activity logging are enabled. From the Domino admin program, on the Configuration tab, expand Messaging/Configurations, then open the document for the server in question. Message tracking is on the Router/SMTP tab, Message Tracking subtab. Activity Logging has its own tab. If you don't need those features, I'd try turning them off. Unfortunately, changes to the config documents requires a Domino restart.
