I am a CCNA, so I do know a little about Cisco routers, but I have not actually been on them that much. As such, my question is about log files and rebooting the router. I have a boss that was instructed to power off a cisco 1600 and then turn it back on because a WAN link was not working. Now the Telephone Co. is mad that he did so becuase they say the log files are gone. Can you please help me with this scenario. Is all the information about the original problem gone? Are there files saved to NVRAM? Thanks.

It's all gone (unless you have a syslog server on the network but it doesn't sound like it). Your boss might want to stick to bossing in the future.

As for the telco, if you have an ongoing problem, the log files will be re-populated with all the useful information that will be necessary in fairly short order. Also, if it is truly a WAN problem, the telco should be able to figure that out using their own network management tools.

Good luck.
