Log Backup - Append vs Overwrite

What is the difference between appending to a backup and overwriting the backup? I see that the append backup will continue to grow, will the overwrite backup contain all log files that the append does?

Append will continue to write backup sets to the media whereas overwrite will overwrite backup the previous backup.
