Lockup on restart

I have a compaq presario laptop. I just recently installed win98 se. It will shut down fine, but when I try to restart it gets locked up on the shut down screen. Makes no sense to me, any ideas?

Do you have any Mapped Drives?

If so , then there is an issue with WIN98 that causes it to fail on shutdown if you have any mapped drives. ( It can also just not respond even if you don't )

Check either one of these and download the appropriate patch :

You said the machine shutdown fine and that only restart get locked up, does that mean you can boot the machine normal when powered up?

Yes a regular shut down works fine. My problem is only on a restart.
