Hello all, im using office 2004 for Mac and office 2003 for XP. I received a requistion form which has text and underline fields for inputing data. When i type over the underline, the underline shifts forward and screws up the entire border format. Is there a way I can lock down the underline fields, so they don't shift forward and stay fixated? Any suggestions or links? Thanks so much who helps.

Sorry, No!

You say this is a form you have received - so not one you are designing yourself - so you are stuck with what you've got and will have to delete some or all of the underlines so that the format doesn't get altered; you might want to complain about the poor design - it depends from whom it came!

Enjoy,
Tony

Hey all, thanks for your help. I mean underline fields like the example below
___________________________________________ when i tried to type text on it, it will eventually shift forward and knock out my margins. So if i have to do it again where do i go into word to lock down the lines so they don't move? Any suggestions ,thanks so much

You cannot do it.

If you are designing the document yourself use a table cell with just a bottom border; if you receive this from someone else all you can do is delete the underlines.

Enjoy,
Tony

fumei beat me to it. I think overtype (not insert) is your only option. Makes for a lousy looking document:

_____Jon Q. Public________

etc...

I totally agree. Using existing underlined text (that is, spaces really) as a "field" to be overwritten is poor, poor design.

Bleeech.

Underlined "blank" spaces in a document is a holdover from using typewriters. It is simply not valid anymore.

If indeed that is the situation here.

TonyJollans, what do you mean a table cell with a bottom border? Thanks all who help.

He means a table with cell having only the bottom border as a line. The other border would be invisible.

However, I am not sure about putting a table in the middle of text like you seem to have.

If I understand this correctly, you should replace all the underline portions with formfields, and use those for input. That is what they are for.
