I have a rack with about 7 48 port patch panels. 2 patch panels are for a separate project and the project engineers would like to either have the cables rerun directly to there server room (too late for that) or lock the panel. Is there any way to secure 2 48 port patch panels. The entire rack is already in a secure comm room, but that is not enough for some reason.
Thanks

Yeah, thats the problem, I don't want to lock all of them, only 2 will be seperate from my network. I just don't think it can be done.

The building has two occupants and all cables terminate in a single comm room, in a single rack. They do not want our admins to have access to there patch panel.

too late! buy half a cabinet and relocate the cabling into it.

no problem. I did some googling and can't find sheet..you may have a new invention on your hands. good luck.

get a machine shop to make one for you , shouldnt be to hard to design . just a steel box to fit over those two panels with a locking door . install it to the rack with security screws .

Best thing I can think of doing is have some stand-offs made that are, in guessing, 3"-4" for clearence over the patch cords, with 12/24 screws at one end and a threaded hole at the other. Use those to mount the patch panels in question, then mount a blank rack filler plate on top of that. It's not really lockable, but at least its covered.

But if you have to reterminate because of a move to a cabinet...

Look into one of the 'multimedia' rack mount enclosures. They are typically for fiber, but for instance, Panduit's can take panel adapters for the RJ45 jacks. You'd have to look for a lockable one. I know many are latching, but locking might be a different story.
This way you don't have to relocate to another rack/cabinet.

I was kind of thinking on the lines of wires. I don't think it would be to hard to make something out of Plexiglas that can be hinged and locked.
What about the switch are you needing to lock that up as well?

Sounds good, nope do not have to lock the switch it will be in a seperate comm room right next door, run through conduit in the wall.

We have two comm rooms right next to each other, one for us and another for a sub. We wanted to run all wires to one comm room because the entire building will eventually be used by us. They come into the patch panel and instead of going to a switch go through the wall conduit.
