Locking certain parts in Word Doc

Is it possible to lock parts of a word doc so that users can view them but not edit them?

I'm trying to create a workflow document. It should only allow those at each point in the work flow to edit parts from people who preceeding them in the work flow.

Any idea appretiated.

Work with sections. Divide your documents to sections you want protected and sections you do not want protected by choosing Insert->Break->Contineous. After you're done choose Tools->Protect Document->Forms and click the sections button. There you may check the sections you want protected and uncheck those you do not want protected.
