I have a file next to all my databases. It is listed as Access.Lockfile.9 I notice a temporary file when I open the database but when I close it, it goes away. What is this file?

Thanks billpower, it did explain it well however I am running W2K Pro and I can't find a workbench directory or workbench.exe file. Is it named differently in W2K or can I use a different program to view it?

while you're on the subject......

i noticed after putting my access mdb file on one of our network drives for safekeeping that after exiting the database both the mdb and ldb files were appearing in my ms explorer's window. the lockfile did not disappear even after waiting for around five or so minutes so i deleted the mdb file. now the system tells me the ldb file can not be deleted? any suggestions?

I notice that if there was a request to the server that is still processing or hanging in the background then the ldb file will still be in use. Try closing all browsers first then deleting it.

I have the same issue, but my files will not open when the LockFile appearrs.

Errors says: The Database needs to be repaired or isn't a database file.

I attempt to repair with no success, I recieve an invalid password error, though the password is valid.

Any ideas?
