Locked up Mac- nothing works!

Installed USB 1.4.1 and my 8600 G3/400 locked up with a type 11 error and said to restart with extensions off. Doing so gives the same message. Can't restart from a CD even or even turn the machine off. How do I save this situation? Running 9.1, have a Gig of RAM, 120GB hard drive. Have unsuccessfully attempted to upgrade to OSX via XPostFacto recently, which may be the problem.

Sometimes hardware needs to be reset with more than a restart. A full shutdown may be required. Try powering off the entire computer by unplugging it.

Thanks for the advice. I completely shut down, didn't work, got the same error message even when restarting with extensions off. Zapped the PRAM 3 times, still nothing. May have to get into the machine and reset the Cuda switch.
