Well im doing this datbase for my BTEC national IT assignment. I have tried to open it today and it shows it is read only and it wont let me open any of the tables in design view. I tried some solutions found on the web such as opening the datbase while holding the shift key, allowing the folder to be trusted but it still wont work. I am also the admin on the computer. i have not added any security setting to the database and I could open it up perfectly fine last thursday.

Another issue is that if I try to create a new datbase it comes up with this error message. "the application is disabled, and datbases may not be created".

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hello,
From my limited experience, it does sound like your database is corrupted. You might have to restore back to a known good copy.

However...

Try this: Open MS Access, go to Help, About Microsoft Access, click on Disabled Items. If there are disabled items, click on each one and click on Enable.

This most likely will not help you with your corrupted database, but I think this will help with the other problem.

I'm not permitted to upload/download to the Internet from work. I used this PDF as well. But, try to search on this: Oakland University, University Technology Services, and look for a PDF called:
"How to Repair a Corrupted Access Database"

That also might help.

I recently went through something similar. I shed many tears and then restored to a back up. Crying didn't help but the back up did! :) Good luck.
