I have a printer installed on a computer. Its shared. Whenever someone prints to that printer, the application that they printed from locks. Their computers do not lock, just in the application. And, printing even just a few characters, takes a minute or two to spool. I've checked the spooling option and that seems normal.

are all the computers involved running WINNT? What type of printer is it? What application are you running when it happens, or is it *all* applications? It really sounds like a classic "print directly to printer" instead of "spool" issue. . .but you said you already checked that. If you can give me this info, i'll give you other possibilities!

Its and HP Deskjet 952.
The print server PC is running windows 95
the other computer (only 3) are running NT.

You right I thought it was the direct to printer thing too, and checked that.

It freezes any application that something sends something to print. It takes forever to get to the printer, but when it does that application is back to normal.

make sure you have the "corporate use" drivers from HP
the Win NT 4.0 file is here:

the Win 95 file is here:

if you need to install these, make sure you completely un-install all drivers presently on the machines. Use the default settings, then create your network share. Let me know if that does not help. I've got a lab I can test your configuration on if needed.

Thanks.

Maybe its bad drivers. I installed the drivers for the HP 970, and everything works fine.

I've noticed this alot around here (i've only been here a few months). There a few printer where the drivers that correspond with a particular printer doesnt work. Other drivers do.
