Lock violation during append query

While running an append query, I keep getting an error message that states 'Can't append all the records in the append query'. Goes on to say '...and it didn't add 1 record(s) due to lock violations. This is a huge problem because each time this message occurs, that record is deleted from the database. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe error trapping to display a more user-friendly message AND keep the record in the database without changes??? Please help. Thanks in advance.

NeedHelp:

It sounds like you are doing a maintenance run to copy 'deleted' records to archive and then removing them from the active tables.

If so, you should have the application open in exclusive mode so that no other users are able to access the data and, thus, lock the records they may be viewing.

Been a while since I've done this, but I believe you need to open the application from the Run line and add the switch /excl.

I think you can also add this to the target string of the short cut immediately after the string that identifies the location of the application:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Access.exe" "C:\ApplicationFolder\ApplicationName.mdb" /excl

Hope that helps.
