Hello there

I am trying to setup a basic SQL DB in SQL 2005 post a sql admin course to enable a little practice.

My project is to provide all personnel with a means to report faults/request for assistance.

What I need to know is - how can I stop a user from overwriting a record or changing a record once he has saved it. If possible I would like to permit admin users to change if required.

I am currently using MS Access to provide data access.

Any assistance gratefully received

Regards
Jack

Jack,
You would probably be better off posting this to the MSAccess forum, but in essence you need to not show the records in the edit form, and show them as read only in the display form.

Or, do it in the Access front end, NOT the SQL server backend. If you can prevent the use from having access to the records, then they won't be able change them.

In SQL Server there isn't a way to allow a user to update a record then not let the user update the record again.

This sort of granularity would need to be controlled in the front end application.
