Is it possible to move the Norton AV definition files from the hard drive to a network disk? One that is shared so that I only have to update the definitions once, and not on all my sytems? I know about corprate edition, but I already have 60 single user copies that came pre-installed on the systems.

Thanks for the help...

HI!

The DEFs must stay on the local hard drive.
However there are several techniques to deploy them to the workstations, using login scripts or other methods.

Look in the maunals of your specific version, and also in SARC & Symantec web sites.
One way is to download daily an EXE file from symantec, then run it from the login script to deploy to clients.
Search Symantec site for:
CE_GETTER
which includes sample batch file and FTP script to automate the proccess.
You can download also from my site, this file:
and this one:
Which contains more info and modified versions of the BATCH/SCRIPT files from Symantec.
Although these files are intended for the NAVCE version, they might be the same for other version since the Virus Definitions handling I assume is the same.

You also might be interested in a free utility I wrote called NetRun, which allows you to schedule Login Script actions to run once a day and not each login.
It is bundled in the NUTS collection, here:
