I understand that it is possible to dettach (take off line) a database and move its file/logfile to a different drive for user created databases, then reattach them.

But what about the Master/Model etc.. other system databases? Can they too be moved like this?

I want to locate all data on a different partition to where SQL is installed. (Is there an option when installing SQL to specify the location of the installation)

I also remember reading somewhere that you should never EVER install an instance of SQL on the same partition as the operating system (Win2k).

I have a RAID set with one logical drive - on it sits the 2 partitions (C: 4Gb, and D: 13Gb) Is it possible to put SQL entirely on D: or should I just locate the SQL installation on C: and put the databases on D: ?

Thanks!

You can install sql server all on one drive or split as you suggest between C and D. I would tend to go for just D as a 4G system partition can soon get used up.

During setup it will ask were you want the files, you may have to select custom setup or something similar, I havent done a new setup for a while.

Hope this helps.
