locating BIOS

How do I locate the BIOS?
I have a windows 98 compaq presario I read somewhere to hold the esc key when starting up the computer but all that did was give me a keyboard error

when you power up the PC then hit the DELETE key... Sometimes it is also F1, or F2...

most compaqs I have come accross use the F10 key to get into the bios. Just keep tapping it once the first screen of something shows up. It should let you in. If you get a keyboard error try again and don't start tapping as soon.

Usual is [F10] while the cursor is in the top right. You get about 3 flashes.
