Can anyone provide an easy way to locate & eliminate links in an excel work book. Workbook has quite a few Buttons/macros that I have built. Have checked every known cell for a formula that pertains to another work book etc. Unable to locate links.

Message is as follows: The workbook you have opened contains automatic links to information in another work book. Do you want to update this wrok book with changes made to the other work book? Y / N.

Do a CTRL+F (find) on a cells in the worksheet
Choose "Formulas" from the drop down and search for
.xls

Alternatively, it may be a range name that is causing the problem - have a look at
Insert>Name >Define to see if there are any external refs in there

Unfortunately these tips not help locate all of the link(s). Are there any other suggestions? Perhaps further info is needed: Have created a work book as a template, this is copied & renamed for each days use. Work book has many macros etc & believe this is the source of the problem (macros are set up in "This Workbook", is this the correct option to choose, vs "All Open Work Books"?. Have searched everything I can think of. Perhaps I have not set up the original template correctly to allow it to be copied without creating these links.

Search for the following article:

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 188449

This will add an Add-In to your Excel that is a wizard that finds ALL links in a workbook. It gives detailed information about what and where to find the links as well.

Great Stuff! Appreciate the tips. Here is one in return. In Excel 2000 the links will not all be elimined when you delete links. It does however copy all of the link locations into a new workbook. This can then be used to locate & eliminate the links.

P.S. Any good at Access??
