What? you ask. That's impossible!

well, it is.

my ip adress typed into a browser does not return ANYTHING, while typing in localhost returns everything perfectly flowery.

Soooo

Any advice on what could cause my apache to go on the fritz? i uninstalled and reinstalled xampp and still no luck!

(apologies for posting in wrong forum, but I cant delete or edit that thread now!)

software firewall? When you say 'your ip address' are you referring to a public IP address or a private IP address? Is this the address that apache is listening on?

For some reason apache is not binding (listening) to your ip address. If you are connecting to your isp or network via dhcp, your ip changes and apache is listening for the wrong address.

Apache is listening on "80"

I dont have an ip adress specified, simply "listen 80".

My ip adress IS dynamic, but that hasnt been a problme in the past..

i'm under mcaffee, avast, and windows firewall, i turned off mcaffee, no luck, and windows fiewall too.. (they're all on atm)

err here it is ....

Port check .ini returns:

[Ports]
Port80=BLOCKED
Port443=BLOCKED
Port3306=BLOCKED
Port21=FREE
Port14147=FREE
Port8080=FREE

gack! they blocked themselves! oh well, now I know what's wrong, whats the recommended fix? i have done the exceptions througbh windows firewall long ago, and my router has the stuff portforwarding says to do for 80 and 443...

Who's "they"? If your ISP blocks port 80, you'll either need to upgrade to an account that allows hosting a web server or use port 8080.

*trys port 8080*

k, well, now "localhost:8080" works, but "myIPAdress":8080 doesnt...

(is was working a week agoooooo)

And as I mentioned before, are you referring to a public or private IP address?

It was a joke. I was trying to get you to look at your current ip to see if it is what you thought. The reason localhost works is because it connects to apache on the loopback device (lo) and not the the ip assigned to eth0.
