I set up Apache 1.3.27, PHP 4.2.3 and MySQL 3.23.52 on an Averatech laptop running WinXP SP2.

I am using a Microsoft MN-700 Wireless Base Station.

I use a Compaq nx9600 for my development machine.

The IP address of the server machine is 192.168.0.1.

Previously, I simply typed the server machines IP address with the folder name, example on my Compaq machine to access websites I am working on and PHP code I am learning.

I didnt use the server mid-December to mid-January. I havent changed anything (really!) but I can no longer access the server from my development machine.

Apache is running on the server machine. I open Explorer on the server machine and takes me to the default Apache page.

I really dont have a good handle on Apache at all. I would appreciate some troubleshooting tips. Thanks!

Are you sure the ip address hasn't changed on the server. Id you check the network settings on the server to see if it is the same and that it is not using dhcp and getting a new ip from the router. If you can access apache from localhost or the loopback device (127.0.0.1), then apache is running. It just isn't getting the request. Since you didn't change anything in apache's configs and are willing to swear to that fact, then I'd feel pretty safe saying it is a network issue.

Additionally, you might want to see if any firewall software has been enabled. This includes Windows Firewall & any firewall softare that might be piggybacking your antivirus application. Even though you say nothing's changed, as RhythmAce has mentioned, apache is running & answering - network requests just aren't getting there.

I had turned on the windows firewall on the server machine. Everything is working great again.

Thanks to both of you for your responses
