Hi, I am hoping someone can offer me some advice. We have two 3300s via ip trunking; one has a voicemail box (remote) and one doesnt. I would like a local phone to be able to be added to the remote office thereby allowing it to use a mailbox. Should I just add it statically to the remote end? If I plug it in locally it is see on the licensing form locally (which I dont want; I deleted it). I am going to try to use the DHCP Static IP form. Any assistance is greatly appreciated; thank you in advance. AJK

All you need to do (on the set) is statically assign the IP address of the remote RTC (the controller) and the TFTP address, which in this case would be the same. You do not need to hard code it on the remote host and you don't need to completely program all the static settings. Just the address of the controller and tftp is all you need, and as I said above, those two addresses would normally be the same.

On the remote controller, just make sure you've assigned an extn for it. You do not need to hard code the mac address. You've already told the phone how to find his way home.

Great! Thank you MitelInMyBlood! I will try tomorrow. I really appreciate it. AJK

You are most welcome.
I do this same thing whenever I need to make test calls and simulate that I'm dialing (originating) from the remote location.
It is very handy to be able to do this especially when developing or expanding on the ARS tables at the remote site.
You can do all your programming and even test it without having to actually be there.
All my remotes are 200ICP but the concept works just as well on either 3300 or 200ICP sites plus it demonstrates the robustness of VOIP in general and the Mitel specifically

Hi MitelInMyBlood, I was somewhat successful as I was able to ping from the phone however it is "stuck" on the DCHP DISCOVERY (on LCD on phone). Under DHCP Options on the remote router I found the gateway and the ipaddress which are the two I put on the phone. I tried to re-register the phone afterwards but was not prompted for a new pin number. Please can you offer any advice? Thank you for your help. AJK

Do you have a DHCP server on the local LAN with the appropriate gateways and other options set? You would need the local gateway address. Easiest would be to check the gateway on the local controller, assuming your IP trunking is working. Make sure you are getting this gateway on your phone. No matter what option 128 and 129 are set to on the local DHCP, as you can hardcode the IP for the RTC as below. The main issue is that you need option 130.

You could use the teleworker option to "hardcode" the IP of the controller, presuming you use a teleworker enabled phone. 5125, 5220 and 5230. I have used this many times and alos works. It saves you from going through all the prompts.

Regards,

I shall give it another shot; thank you for all your help Mitelpassion and MitelInMyBlood. AJK

You shouldn't need to program the gateway address unless it's on another network.
Ordinarily the only two elements I program on the phone are the remote RTC and TFTP addresses (which as I said before are one and the same)
Assuming DHCP is enabled, the phone should pull an address from your local RTC and should then register with the remote, asking you to input the PIN.
If you are bandwidth-constrained to the remote, then the phone download can sometimes take awhile, sometimes a long while, ie several minutes.

Something else to consider....

Do you have a corporate LAN network? If so, are your 3300s in seperate VLANs? If they are and they both have the internal DHCP server enabled, why not just statically assign the IP set to have a VLAN ID of the 3300 you want to connect to. Then when the IP set boots up, it will send a DHCP request out only on the one VLAN and will receive the proper options from the controller you want.

I would erase all other static settings if this is the case and just input the VLAN ID. I use this set up in my lab at work where I have multiple VLANs, each with a different Mitel controller on it. I am able to change my test sets by just changing the VLAN ID.

I forgot to mention that this only works if you have a router that will route between the different VLANs.

You said you have 2 3300 systems, is one of them on the remote site?

Good day, sorry I took so long responding. I was waiting for some router/firewall problems to be resolved. Firstly there are two vlans, 2 controllers (each with dif vlan now config'ed as option 130)and a MAS. I can get the remote workers going well enough. Its the local and remote access for mailboxes that I am having a problem with. I continually get DHCP DISCOVERY meaning I believe that I have not configured the phone properly. The configuration on the local 3300 is
local ip address 12.0.2.4
gateway 12.0.2.254
additional local networks 12.0.2.0
Am I supposed to be programming statically? If so, I dont know what to put in as default gateway (whats in there is wrong I believe - should it be 12.0.2.254)? Also, where do I find what to put in for local/remote ICP address? Also, do I assign an ip address for the phone?
Excuse my ignorance and thank you all for your help - I need it! AJK

Between your vlans do you have trunking programmed and enabled, the gateway will then be the ip addresses of the vlans.
This way you are able to connect from one site to the other.

Also if you have vlans working you are able to use DHCP on both Mitel systems as long as you have the settings in your Microsoft DHCP Server configured properly?

Do you also have two data vlans.

Actually we did get everything going last week. Thank you for helping. AJK
