local mapping to a hidden folder on server

Hi, I need to map a drive locally on my xp pro desktop that points to a hidden folder on our 2000sbs. the path is \\servername\user$, so when I use the mapping function in xp, it's not visible, and the browse ability is greyed out.

Is there a switch to allow this, maybe from the command prompt?

subst p: \\servername\user$
