hi , i have a vpn setup , and the connection is working fine and its getting the ip address of the dns server etc no problem but i cant open a mailbox or access network resources, why is this

Probably because you have not authenticated on your domain.

hi, how do i get the router to do this ?? authenticate to the domain

It depends on your kit. I know that Checkpoint can authenticate you on your domain but I am not sure of any others that can. Here we take a two step approach. I VPN to the firewall and authenticate using a certificate. Once I am authenticated I then use a PPTP connection to connect myself to our domain. Once authenticated I can then access anything I want. Awkward but it was set up before I got here and I'm too busy (read lazy) to change it!
