Local Images Don't Display in IE 5.5 and other Apps...

I seem to be having a problem that I can't seem to find a resolution for...

I am using IE 5.5 128-Bit Encryption on Windows 98 SE and am unable to view images on a web page when they are local to my machine.

I have verified that the paths are relative and also checked that the IE Settings for viewing pictures is turned on, viewing web sites on the internet works fine...

I am also having a problem with other Applications that are giving me the same problem where Icons are being displayed as a White Box with a small Red X in it...

I also looked in TechNet but without an Error message I came up blank...

If anyone has come across this problem and has a resolution, I would appriciate your help...

Try this, go into Windows Explorer and select the .jpg image. Then drag and drop that image inside of a open Internet Explorer session. See if that will allow you to open the image.
If that does not work try this, open up Microsoft word, 97 or 2000. select one image and insert it into a word document. Then go File->save as webpage-> after that is complete go->view->preview and it should open that webpage inside of Internet Explorer. if you also know where the .htm file is located just double click on it and it should load and display the image. Not sure if this works but give it a try.

You can also look under Tools->Internet Options->Advanced->Multimedia and make sure all the checkboxes are checked(except for the radio one at the top)

I have a similar problem, where within any browser, (IE, Netscape, even internal browsers like Kazaa), wont show pictures selectively on any webpage, If i right click the picture, and select show picture, it will show up. And at other times, those same pictures will show up on a page, while another wont. Im running Windows XP with IE 6 all newest updates on. If anyone knows what that could be, please respond
