I have a FrontEnd/BackEnd config with a FE in a DMZ. Most clients will attach to the front end using SMTP client.

I'm testing this weekend to get ready for production and am running into a problem. All messages going into my domain hang in the [local domain name] (Local Delivery) queue. After some time, and several retry attempts the messages are finally successful but they are definately delayed. If I restart the front end server all messages get delivered immediately.

I do not have any connectors configured.

I sure would appreciate any help!

Found the solution! It was a problem with my Cisco PIX firewall. I was using the fixup command to check all smtp. The problem is that Exchange uses esmtp so it was dumping my connection. Removed the command and now all my users are happily receiving SPAM (oh yeah and some valid email!)
