Sorry, this might be a dumb question. Last I played with sharepoint was in 2001. I dont remember the details.

I am trying to setup 2007 now. I am reading some docs on MS technet. But I really want to hear from the horse's mouth.

So for now, I had some basic questions.
(1)Can I have sharepoint users that authenticate to AD as well as other source like local users, maybe database? This is to separate internal and external users. Obviously SPS has to be a member server of a AD.
(2)Is it a bad thing for SPS to be DC as well?
(3)I know that I can have multiple sites either under existing ones or in a new tab. But can I have multiple instances of sharepoint on the same server? The reason being we plan to use SPS for multiple projects, some inter-departmental and some with external agencies. So I was wondering if I can have sharepoint portals project.company.com and inter.company.com running on the same SPS server?

I found that there are tons of documents out there for 2007. But could anyone recommend a good one they used. Simple, step-by-step, howtos for a initial user and thereon for more advanced users.

Please advice. I do appreciate all help in jump-starting my process.
Thanks.
