Local Client Install Fails

Version 8.0 client install stopped working. Pervasive splash screen appears for a few seconds, 99% displays, screen closes, install does not complete. Tried v8.7 - same thing. No event log errors and no McAfee Log entries. Database is version 8.0

Is there anything in the PSQLINST.LOG?
WHat OS?
Have you disabled McAfee?
Any other antispam/virus/malware software running? If so, disable it.

The installation process does not go far enough ti create the PSQLINST.Log, Clien OS is XP w/SP2. All anitivirus and anti spam programs were disabled. I was able to install the 9.5 client however the 9.5 Pervasive Control Console is not compatible with the 8.0 database.
 
That's right. None of the SQL interfaces will work from a 9.x client to an 9.x server.

If you're not getting a PSQLINST.LOG, you may have to issue a separate command. You can try:

setup.exe /s /v"/L* \"%WINDIR%\psqlinst.log\""

Still no install log created. Strange that the 9.5 client does install.
 
If you're not getting a log, that means Windows Installer isn't function correctly for the PSQL v8 client. THe log is a Windows Installer (not a PSQL log).
Are you trying to install from a local copy of the client?

Yes, I am trying to install from a local copy of the client. The Windows Installer seems to work for other installed programs including v9.5 of the Pervasive client. I first suspected a corrupt Pervasive install file so downloaded 8.7 with the same result.
 
I just reread your original message. Actually 8.0 and 8.7 do not use MSI or Windows Installer so the command line I gave wouldn't help to generate a log file. Only, PSQL 8.5, 8.6 and 9.x are MSI based.
Both installs are built using InstallSHield 5.5.
Are you running as an Administrator? I know that PSQL 8.7 went back to InstallShield 5.5 because of problems with MSI in 8.5 and 8.6.

I am running the install as Admin. 8.6 might work if I could find it but Pervasive's web site only goes back as far as 8.7
 
I re-copied the 8.0 client installation files off of the CD and the installation now works. Either one or more files were corrupted or missing. Thanks for all your time on this.
