This must be a common problem with an easy answer: I run Apache 2.0.43 with PHP and MySQL, as a local server on Win XP Home. It was all working fine, until I installed a broadband connection (NTL) and Norton firewall. Now whenever I call on my Apache as local host, Internet Explorer 6 completely crashes with no dialogue and no message. I know Apache is fine, because Netscape 4.6 still connects Apache local host perfectly. Netscape isn't my broadband browser, so I'm guesing that broadband conflicts. Why, and what do I need to do? I've already tried using port 8080 instead on 80.

Since apache was working before and still works with netscape you should be looking for the problem with the software you installed that broke the connection not apache. Check the broadband stuff and norton.

The problem is not with your ports. If the ISP was blocking port 80, they would do it at their end and not on your machine. It's not your broadband connection because the only thing added was a public ip address which doesn't have anything to do with the loopback device (127.0.0.1) which is localhost on ALL machines. I think something is messed up with IE6. Try using instead of just localhost or use You should also be able to use your machine's hostname.
