Loading tapes into DLT7000

hello -- i'm new to legato, so bear with me.

How do you label tapes with Networker and an ADIC DLT7000 tape drive? Do you have to physically mount the tape in the drive yourself before you can label it?

I insert the tapes into the slots, click on the Label button and get an read open error every time. It only works when I go up to the tape drive and insert the tape into the drive myself. Will I have to do this for all the tapes? This tape drive is at a regional office, so I don't want to have to get someone to insert tapes 7 times into the drive if I want to label 7 tapes.

Also, how do you know which tape is being labeled? In Veritas, you can see a GUI of which tapes are each slot. Any way to do this in Legato?

Thanks.

Hi,

If it's a jukebox device - you can run:

# nsrjb -l -S <slotnumber>

and then check tapes for location and label:

# mmlocate

or

# nsrjb -Cv

It should work from the GUI too of course. You might have a problem with the SCSI connection. Check the cables. Also try nsrjb -HE to reset the library and run Inquire -l to see that all drives and the lib are found.
