With many thanks to HenryW ( I was able to install SK98 on Win 8.1. I used his .zip file( though there were a few glitches during the installation, the program seems to be working fine.
During the installation, I had to click repeatedly on various troubleshooting and compatibility screens, and I kept repeating the installation until it finally all worked.
The only glaringly obvious problem at the moment is that when I click on a calendar line in order to type an entry these characters pop up as the first characters on the line : " ŒíuAŒíu†5æœ " or " ŒíuAŒíu(c̽ ". I am hoping that mercifully these will disappear in time, but if anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate hearing them.
Again, my deepest thanks to HenryW and everyone else who has helped to keep Sidekick alive. Why, since it is easily the best program of its kind - ever - it was allowed to die, is still beyond me, especially when I see the garbage that comes with every new computer, but I am still gratefully amazed that it is working again on this new (Acer V5) machine. Several of my old XP computers are near death, and I cannot tell you how happy I am to see that I can carry on with Sidekick for at least another few years !!
