When I get to the point of loading the driver, I find the HP2100 Lazerjet model, then the driver for it, then when I press ENTER, I get the response: Error: invalid drive/path specification.

As the driver is in the same folder/directory as the WordPerfect program, I cannot understand why it does not accept it.

Can anyone advise?

how are you loading this driver manually,cd,floppy or waht and what os 98,95,2000,xp and are there any other printer drivers already loaded???? then we go from there..may be i or someone else can walk you through it.

Hi genrlj1596(mis)

My os is Windows 98 se. The Wordperfect HP2100 lazerjet Printer driver is HL2SEPC.PRS which I down loaded from a special site that has various HP drivers for wordperfect.

I have tried to load it via a floppy disc as well as loading the driver in the same folder as the Wordperfect program. In both cases I click on the printer name HP2100 Lazerjet and the file HL21SEPC.PRS is highlighted but when I press the enter key I get the message: Error: invalid drive/path specification.

The only other driver I have loaded is the one that runs the printer with Windows 98 Word. As Wordperfect is a DOS program it does not recognise the proper printer driver. That is why I had to download this special one for Wordperfect.

Hope this helps for you to give me some idea what to do.

if i am not mistaken that is not a driver what is the printer hp2100? there are several version of the hp2100 like m,se,etc.....i found a lot of drivers but i need that info to help you.

My printer is 2100lazerjet. There is no other letter after it. It is the basic model. The printer file is HL21SEPC.PRS

The driver is taken from a Wordperfect site. I do everything correctly, it is just that when I press enter for the driver to be accepted, I get the message: Error: invalid drive/path specification.

That is all the information I can think I have.

hey listen i researched what i told you and that file is not the driver for your printer to work that file is for wordperfect which is seperate you must install your hp2100 driver first and if your system has that .prs (wordperfect) file in it which it does by what you told me when you print a wordperfect document it should automatically access that file.......driver for a device is almost always with a extension of .exe.....I think i have the right driver for you.....if you give me your email address i can email it to you

Hi genrlj1596

It has just dawn on me that we might be talking about two different Wordperfects. I use Wordperfect 5.1 for dos although I run it through Windows 98. In the print section it ask if you want to load a printer. It is at this point that I pick the 2100 and when I do so, it gives me the driver that I have mentioned before. At this stage I press the enter key and get that message I said last time.

Appologies for the mix-up. Can you still help?

Ok let me see if I can get this point across, forget about word perfect for a minute. Go to start, settings, printers, and tell me if you see your HP2100 printer icon. If so right click, properties and click tast page. Write me back and let me know what happen Please.

Did as you said and the test page came out okay. I've not had problems with printing things that are true Windows programs. The problem here arises because the Wordperfect is a DOS program and as such needs its own special driver for the printer.

I followed all the proceedures that usually work with this software but for some unknown reason it is not working. That is why I cannot understand why the error message comes up. Maybe I should up-grade to Word and leave Wordperfect in the past.

In this case where you have all these problems with the LJ2100 driver, I would try and go for the unofficial HP universal driver instead, also known as the LJ4 Plus driver. That one might work right away if you don`t have any optional extra trays mounted on your printer. The thing is that the old Wordperfect might need a driver allready loaded during boot of your PC. A lot of older DOS applications require that, as their printers need special PJL or PCL commands to adjust margins, page widt, tray selection ect.
