Hi All,
I have a Compaq Presario 7470 (don't laugh) running Win 2K Pro. I've been having numerous shutdown issues and have had no luck solving the problem. After uninstalling all hotfixes, critical updates, and service packs I finally realized something in the messages during startup. Before I upgraded this machine to Win2K it was running Win98 and it had a problem shutting down automatically. I ran msconfig and unchecked "Load Power Profile." This fixed the problem. I upgraded to Win2K pro and installed service pack 3 and all of the critical updates and hotfixes. Now I have the problem again. I downloaded msconfig for use on Win2K and have unchecked "Load Power Profile" but when I start up I see the message "loading power profile." So I opened up regedit and searched for a key containing power profile. I found it in:
HKey Local Machine>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Run Services

I searched the rest of the registry and there was nothing else to be found. I have deleted the key and the message still shows up during start up. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know how to disable the loading of power profile other than the ways mentioned above?

Click Start - Run and type services.msc
lookup the service if running, if so, doubleclick it and put it on disable.
And don't be to quick to delete keys in the registry !
