Loading Cd into Drive D 1

Depends
The drive may just have died (CD drives do). Can you boot the machine from it? Or if you boot from a win98 boot floppy with CD support, can you access it from the dos prompt?
Does the same thing happen whatever CD disk you put in the drive? Has it been having trouble reading disks lately (taking a long time to spin up etc?)
