Loading a movie into a clip

I have a main movie with buttons to call other movies into a clip. The clip in the main movie is 550 x 250 pixels and all the other movies are 550 x 250 pixels.
The buttons work and the movies get loaded and play - the only problem I have is that the movies being loaded seem to be getting squashed. They don't seem to appear their full size of 550 x 250 in the clip, more like 550 x 150 pixels.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be?
