As part of our roll out to a new team, we had to validate livelink speed versus file share speed.
When we open documents (say 1MB, 10MB, 100MB, 300Mb, 500MB) in LL it seems to be much faster than file share. LL beats fileshare by almost double. For instance 300MB open in LL is like 13 to 15 seconds whereas in fileshare it is more like 28 to 32 seconds.
My explanation was:
1. Not only Livelink but also http protocol and its QoS (quality of service) in the network might be better.
2. For FileShare traffic the priority might be low in the network and also it is probably a less optimal transfer in terms of protocol compared to http.
3. For word/office documents, Microsoft probably is optimised for http traffic compared to file transfer.
Of course I made up the above .
But the question to Guru's here is that have you seen same kind of LL behaviour vis-a-vis FileShare? If so do you have any links or reasons to tell that LL is more faster than FileShare?
