Hi, all :) Thanks, in advance, for any help...

I have a refurb 4250 that when started says "resend upgrade". I downloaded what appears to be the appropriate firmware upgrade from the HP site (lj4x50fw_08.009.3a.rfu). I connected to the printer via a crossover cable and used the browser to open management on the printer. Clicked on the "Other Setting" link, then the "Upgrade Firmware" tab, browsed to the file location and clicked upgrade. I got an error...

Firmware upgrade aborted due to errors.

Not very indicative of what the issue is. I then tried ftp'ing through the command prompt and it appears the file is being "put" but not applied. I'm at a loss now. I hope someone can help!!!

Thanks :)
Michelle

Ok, question. This printer is normally setup via a network cable? If it is, I have a solution for you, that requires no change is setup.

I just checked HP's website, and it looks like you have the correct firmware. So, here is what you do.

1. Open your web browser.

2. type ftp:// and the printers IP Address. So it looks something like

ftp://192.168.1.125

This will load and you will see a folder called "port" or "port1" I don't remember the exact name of the folder, but it's not important. Drag and drop the .rfu firmware file into the main window of your browser, not in the port folder. You'll see it start copying, and if you look at the printer, you should see a message on the control panel saying "recieving update." The printer will power cycle on it's own after the update, and return to the ready state. If this fails, I would suggest downloading the firmware file again, as it may have been corrupted.

Thanks, Timothy :)

I tried a couple of ways of uploading the file (brower and ftp w/cmd prompt, both using crossover cable), finally resorting to the parallel cable/ltp1 approach, through command prompt, and got the file copied. The display on the printer said it was receiving and processing the update, but it still comes back to the "resend upgrade" message. HP told me that I would need to take it back to the retailer because this means the formatter is bad, whatever that means.

Thanks, again, for your response!
