Jim,

If you feel like shooting craps, you can order the "free" pad, but believe me, you get what you pay for. It's only a band-aid that HP came up with to avoid a recall. Of the people I've seen who tried to install the kit, 1 got it right, and it only lasted a few months. Best bet is to replace the entire pad assembly (arm). Check out FixYourOwnPrinter.com.

I have installed several of these kits with good results. At lease 2 6L's 2 1100's and 1 3150. Ordered from web and received kits in less than a week.

Overall, for me at least, quick, easy, cheap, and it works.

I figure if it doesn't work then you can always use the more expensive/complicated solution.

With reference to the paper seperator on 5L's and 6L's. A little idea is to carefully remove the seperator from its position, it seems to be in there with double sided tape.
Clean the bottom end with IPA. Then stick it back in upside down because you are now using new end. It has worked for me on the last four machines.

To sad the free sep. pad kits service will soon end [sadeyes]

NOTE: The HP Free Customer Replaceable Pads program will be shut down on October 31, 2003. This ordering web page will be discontinued as of that date.
