I am running SystemWorks 2000 under Windows98. I registered online with Symantec to continue my Virus update for another year, it said that when I used LiveUpdate it would complete the process. Since that instance whenever I try to do a LiveUpdate it hangs while checking to see what updates are availible. I may not even be connected to Symantec since it freezes at "Connecting to LiveUpdate sysmantecliveupdate.com".

I am having exactly the same problem. I am running NIS 2001 over Windows 98SE. I have 240 days left on my updates. A few days ago, LiveUpdate started hanging, would not perform an update, and had to be closed by ctl-alt-del>end task. Symantec directed me to an in-house document explaining how to install the latest version of LiveUpdate. I did everything as directed. The LiveUpdate version is now clearly different, graphically and in name ("LiveUpdate Express"), but the problem is exactly the same. Either I get the Error "LiveUpdate is running in the background" or LiveUpdate starts and immediately hangs.

The really disconcerting thing is in the NIS System Status window, there is a question mark under "Virus Definitions" and the words "No Definitions", even though I downloaded and installed the latest definitions manually.

Have you had any luck clearing this up?

I solved my problem by disabling SystemWorks Internet Security and then running live update and then enabling Internet Security. Hope it helps.
