Livelink PDF Indexing for PDF Versions > 1.4

Hi, I have an old Livelink instance we are still using in production (v 9.7.1). I recently found out it's not indexing any PDF of version 1.5 or greater (Acrobat 6 or greater). I'm pretty sure the work is done in OPENTEXT\filters\xpdf. I wonder if the fix could be as easy as updating this xpdf folder which appears to have a series of text files for various character sets. I do not know too much about fiters but my thought is PDF if it contains textual content would be indexed by livelink.When people complain in my livelink I would find the document and try to select text from that using adobe's find.If that works then livelink's indexing 9/10 works.
