I know nowt about Livelink.
I am using the webdav url to download an Excel 2007 document to my pc. I understabd that during the download the file is reserved and so can not be amended. Is ths true?
If I navigate to where the document resides on Livelink, click on the document and click save the file is downloaded to my pc, but is it reserved on Livelink and can it be amended while I am downloading it?
Thank you in advance

Not sure what you are getting at but this is the stanadrd way livelink's document management works.

User A puts document abcd objid 1234 in a folder.
User B says 'Edit' on the object.
Livelink marks objid 1234 as reserved.Only one user can have exclusive edit rights at one time.Any body else who has 'Add Version' privs can add versions now I thinks that is what you are referring as amending in your post.
User B completes edit and adds back version.
Livelink removes reserved status.
User B's version is now the latest and greatest and the default open link points to that.
What has happened is all the people who did not pay attention the lock icon now has versions that are superseded
by user B's version.
Hopefully that was your qn.

Sorry if I'm causing confusion.
user A puts a document on Livelink. Users B, C and D as far as I know do not have "edit" rights... can not amend/add the document on Livelink, can not upload or delete the document.

When I say amend I mean open the document on livelink, make changes and then save it on Livelink. Can a document only be edited on a pc and then uploaded to Livelink

I think all B, C and D can do is save/download a copy from Livelink to their pc. Once on their pc they can edit it as much as they want, they can not upload to Livelink.

If the B, C or D navigates to the "directory" in Livelink so they can see the document and then clicks on the document they get a message box saying, open, save, cancel...I think.
If they click save a copy of the file is saved/downloaded to their pc.
During this save/download period can the people that have full edit rights to the document/Livelink area do anything with the document such as amend it?

YES people who have the editing rights (Delete Versions & Reserve) on the objects in livelink can do everything. If you are editing it and you have reserved it only you can checkin or a sysadmin can cancel your check out.All the others are righly working with their own vesrions.

To Add to appnair's posts:

Admittedly we do not user WebDAV, however in general the Download feature does not trigger the Reserve function. It simply makes a copy at the location you have downloaded the item.

Otherwise when a user selects to OPEN the document using WebDAV it automatically reserves it and then unreserves it when the document is closed.
